It’s not often you call out ‘we’re waiting for the Cavalry to arrive’ during the working day but our team got to do just that, when two members of the Lifeguards and two members of the Blues and Royals put our new set of Smith-Watkins state fanfare trumpets through their paces.

The inspection and testing of the instruments commissioned by the Ministry of Defence for royal and state occasions clearly hit the right note.

The quartet led by Trumpet Major Matt Screen was in demand from the assembled media we invited to witness this milestone. They played a fanfare for Look North’s 50thbirthday, chatted to BBC Radio York and posed for a posse of newspaper and news agency photographers at our North Yorkshire premises. Many of the national and regional journalists who attended were also kept busy fine-tuning numerous social media posts live from the scene.

Thanks to the recent announcement that State Trumpeters from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment will definitely be involved in the service at St George’s Chapel, international, national and regional print, broadcast and online coverage is still coming through. Our cuttings book includes features and picture stories in the Daily Telegraph, The Times, the Yorkshire Post and the Daily Mail online, the world’s biggest newspaper website, and we’ve enjoyed watching ourselves on ABC Australia.  Music to our ears!
